Biography

I was born and raised in the Greater New Orleans Area. I have spent brief periods in other areas, but always end up returning home. The beauty of New Orleans is in sharp contrast with the conditions in New Orleans, which is what I believe attracts so many artists to this area. There is never a shortage of subject or inspiration.

I began painting with pastels and writing poetry when I was eight years old. I have always had a lot of inner conflict about how to define myself, it seems like the painter and the poet were always at war with each other. The last few years I have been able to (mostly) resolve this conflict by letting painter and poet reside in the same space. Most of my paintings have poetry painted into the background or etched into the sides. The same can be said for my sketchbooks and notebooks more and more they are becoming one and the same, with paint and poetry meshed together on every page.

I am a self taught painter, but have taken drawing classes with the following artists:

Daphne Loney: Who besides opening my eyes to new ways of seeing also helped me develop confidence as an artist.

Robin Cole: Who encouraged me to let my artwork move towards a disciplined abstract.

Robin Pellegrin: Robin was my Figure Drawing teacher, but the lessons learned from her critiques and observations have stayed with me and continue to shape my work.

Art Organizations:

New Orleans Art Association

Metairie Art Guild
